Story

February 26th, 2024 began like any other. Alicia Jimenez, wife and mother of three, spent the morning caring for the newest member of our family, her one year-old granddaughter Clarissa. Around noon, Alicia began experiencing a severe headache that we would later learn was the result of two brain aneurysm ruptures. She cried out for aid, and her son Victor, who by the grace of God happened to be over during his lunch break, came within minutes. He called an ambulance and cared for young Clarissa until he was able to hand her over safely to her parents.

Thanks to the expertise and care of the doctors at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, Alicia was granted a second chance at life. The family has since been at Alicia’s bedside: providing comfort, assisting with therapies, and advocating for her wellbeing.

Despite the traumatic injury her brain endured, Alicia continues to fight for her life and demonstrates gradual growth and progress. We have since witnessed mobility of all limbs; clear and coherent verbalizations with the ability to hold brief conversations; and are currently working towards tracheostomy weaning. We still have a long journey ahead.

Unfortunately, we have exhausted insurance coverage for many significant expenses. Her current care team has done an outstanding job at continuing her tracheostomy weaning, and our mother has made huge gains in all elements of recovery. However, the nursing/ rehabilitation center has informed us that we will need to pay $15,000/ month in order to keep servicing her. Our goal is to keep her in the home until she has been completely weaned off the trachea tube, which would save her from dangerous infections and allow for a more promising recovery. She has passed most testing to continue the process and the prospects look promising.

We truly believe that our 65 year-old mother, Alicia, has plenty of life ahead of her and want to support her ongoing recovery and quality of life. So, we have created a GoFundMe page to help cover the overwhelming medical expenses associated with her care, including:
Rehabilitation and Long Term Care
Ongoing treatments and Therapies
Future surgeries or hospitalizations

Any donation that will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate at this time, we ask that you keep our mother and family in your prayers.

Thank you for helping us give back to our mother for all that she has done for us.

With deep gratitude and appreciation,

Jimenez and Salgado Family

Rehabilitación y cuidados a largo plazo
